Participants in the first annual Lighten Up 4 Montgomery County weight loss challenge more than doubled their original goal to "lose a ton."
When the four-month competition ended on Monday, May 17, registrants had reported a total weight loss of 4,896 pounds, or 3.54% of their total starting weight.
Greg Seago, Lighten Up coordinator at Fusion Fitness & Aquatics, reported the totals and announced winners at Wednesday's grand finale event.
Not all of the starting 658 registrants completed the challenge, but the success rate for teams was better than for individual entrants. Seago said that 35% of the original 144 teams submitted a final weigh-in report, compared to only two of the original 54 individuals. However, one of those two, Larry Keiser, was among the top five individuals.
